Judging Panel 

We have developed our judging over 15 years and our judges, all top business people within their chosen arena, have cited our awards as both the most transparent and professionally executed.
Each application is scored by at least 4 different judges from a panel of up to 22 judges, all applications are seen by different members of the judging panel.
The judges meet over several hours and score not only their own sponsored category but several others too, this ensures transparency.
The first page of questions is designed to give the judges a real feel for your business, followed by several questions that are scored from 1 to 5. It is worth noting that although all judging is computer based please ensure you upload images or screen shots of all important pages.
There are no site visits or presentations involved.
The finalists are chosen by adding all the scores and up to 8 entrants can make it through to the final, however if scoring is low, less entrants make it through.

Julie is a marketing and business development strategist with over 20 years’ experience of advising SMEs on their commercial growth and brand evolution.Alongside her role at St Albans and London-based law firm SA Law, Julie serves as a non-Executive Director of business enterprise agency Wenta, which provides support and guidance to a wide range of SMEs. She is also the former Director and Chair of Watford Chamber of Commerce.

Her initiatives have won regional and national awards, including Hertfordshire Digital Gold Awards in 2017 for innovative and diverse use of social media, and for SA Law’s highly successful Reluctant Divorcee blog <link https://salaw.com/views-insight/julie-gingell-sa-law-news-sa-law-win-double-at-the-herts-digital-awards/ >.

Julie is a Chartered Marketer and Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, and was one of the first marketing professionals in the UK to be to be appointed as a partner under the new legal sector ABS rules. She is regularly invited to speak on a wide range of commercial topics, including digital transformation, complying with the GDPR and building customer engagement.

Outside work Julie enjoys listening to jazz, collecting (and tasting) small batch gins, supporting Watford Football Club, watching films, TED Talks and reading.

After thousands of deadlines, hundreds of targets and a few awards she moved into management & training for industry names including Newsquest & Yell.com.After managing a specialist digital project team in 2006, June understood that the ability to target an audience, measure results & truly control spend would redefine advertising for local businesses & swapped the ink in her veins for zeros and ones and launched My Mustard, an online advertising agency in 2007.A highly enthusiastic on and offline networker June is a Google Partner, the Vice President of the St Albans Chamber of Commerce and talks about Google at various forums. Martin Walker:Martin has an appetite to drive evolution and since joining Osborne Appointments in September 2007, he has been instrumental in driving through a number of initiatives which have increased company performance and client relationships. He is commercially astute with an aptitude for analysing and identifying key business needs, coupled with the ability to formulate and implement focused and achievable business plans. Martin has been heavily involved in all of OA’s CSR initiatives and takes great pride in our community involvement and funds raised over the years. In his spare time, Martin is a qualified badminton coach and also runs his daughter’s local football team

Laura Clark:

Laura is a prodigy of the OA Academy, rising from Consultant to Regional Operations Director in the eight years she has been with us.

An extremely tenacious and business focussed individual, Laura leads by example and inspires others around her to exceed client and candidate expectations. As a member of the select Elite Networking forum, she has gained a wealth of knowledge and now regularly advises businesses on the factors affecting the local labour markets. Laura is extremely proud of Osborne Appointments’ seven business award wins in the past two years and was delighted when OA were recently voted “Best place to work in the UK” by the Sun newspaper.


Ralph Raynor

Stevenage Borough Council 

Ralph Raynor is married and has lived in Stevenage most of his life since coming to the town as a young child. As well as interests in local politics and current affairs he enjoys sports and is a keen cinema and theatre goer. Ralph has been a Borough Councillor since 2003. He is currently the executive member for the economy, enterprise and transport, a role he has held at Stevenage Borough Council for seven years. Ralph also serves as a governor at Woolenwick Junior School in Stevenage.

Ian Cording 

FM World UK

Ian is a seasoned veteran in Business Awards judging with more than two decades of viewing applications UK wide and credits his ‘colourful life’ and no nonsense, pragmatic approach, to business and life in general as adequate credentials to be on this panel. Despite a very busy and full life he is a Bedfordshire Business Ambassador, a volunteer Enterprise Adviser working with SEMLEP and The Careers & Enterprise Company where he is part of a dedicated team building a talent pipeline through employer engagement with the student population, primarily year 12’s in Bedfordshire county and the wider region.

Out of school rather earlier than some he bizarrely started his adult life as a butcher’s apprentice. Thereafter a period of ten years in the public service in various departments allowed him to catch up on his education and then make the leap into the world of business by starting a Planning & Architectural Practice business 33 years ago.

Additionally, this past 10 years, Ian and his wife Birute embraced Network Marketing as a business model so much so they now spend much of their time travelling both in the UK and abroad training, coaching and mentoring their FM World team. A keen ‘crowd fund’ investor Ian still acts in a Planning consultancy capacity for a select group of long standing personal clients and manages a modest property portfolio ‘in trust’ for the family. Family is very big on Ian’s agenda, he loves to travel widely and seamlessly mixes business and pleasure because … ‘he can’


Peter Smits

Ashbourne Insurance 

Peter Smits, Managing Director of Ashbourne Insurance has been a key member of the UK Insurance Industry’s Keychoice Broker Forum for many years, is a regular contributor in The Hertfordshire Mercury Newspaper’s business supplement and blog’s online with the Hertfordshire Growth Hub. He is a specialist guest speaker at Cyber Security Seminars held throughout the county.

Ashbourne Insurance has won multiple business awards for Service Excellence over the years at local, regional and national level. Peter won the award for ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ for the South East at the National Family Business Awards in 2017.


Lisa Devayya

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council

Lisa Devayya joined Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council in January 2016 as the Economic Development Officer.  This was a brand new post as the Council recognised that businesses are the life blood of the economy and are keen to support the business community to thrive.  However Lisa was no stranger to this role as she previously worked for Dacorum Borough Council for 5 years in a similar post so was able to hit the ground running.Her role includes acting as a key point of contact for businesses seeking advice from the council or its partners, promoting inward investment to the borough, offering support and advice (including signposting to other supporting organisations), apprenticeship advice and guidance and any other activity that ensures local businesses flourish.

Lisa has set up a Business Forum to debate common opportunities and threats and devise joint actions to improve the business environment.

Chelsey Raysbrook joined Aubrey Park Hotel in May 2017 as Sales and Event Manager with her main objective, to drive the business forward with conferences and events with the recent development of The Oak Suite.  Her passion to drive the business forward has seen her role develop into a senior executive position where she continues to evaluate areas of the business to ensure that we remain focused on service, continually competitive and always provide the best offering for our clients.With over five years event and industry experience, Chelsey has spent many a summer month freelancing for various clients such as the BBC, Apple Music, Festival Republic and Live Nation on various live events and festivals as a Project Manager, Production Assistant and Artist Liaison Coordinator.  Previously having worked in a number of venues such as Watford Football Club and Ashridge House Chelsey has gained a rounded knowledge of venues and all nature of bespoke events.

Abi has enjoyed a career of over 20 years in the animal welfare industry at a high level consulting for the British Equestrian Olympic Team which inspired her to develop the Longcroft concept named in the worlds media as a ‘trendsetter’ responsible for changing an industry that had remained unchanged for decades.

Abi loves nothing more than seeing individuals reach their true potential and can regularly be found mentoring small business owners, having recently partnered with the British Library scale up program to coach others in business development and other Herts based business owners looking to grow their business.

Longcroft Luxury Cat Hotels has won many regional and national awards for their innovative approach to pet care led by Abi’s entrepreneurial approach. Abi was thrilled to be winner of the SME ‘Entrepreneur of the year’ award 2017.

Abi’s perfect day involves cat cuddling, eating out and Pilates.

Lucy Barrow, Director of Marketing and Business Development had a career spanning over 15 years in senior management and business development in The City before finding her true calling and joining the Longcroft management team. Her strategic and analytical approach has been integral to Longcroft’s growth and development from one cat hotel to 20 thriving and successful locations today.  She has been instrumental in the development and growth of the infrastructure developing bespoke marketing plans using her in depth knowledge of franchising. 

Lucy enjoys keeping fit, entertaining her 2 beautiful children, watching films and reading.

Peter Moule

Broxbourne Borough Council

Peter Moule is Managing Director and owner of his family firm Bill Moule and Sons Ltd where he has worked for the last 37 years.He started work as an electrician at St Pauls Cathedral where he passed all his electrical qualifications.

He then switched careers and become a computer programmer and system analyst when computers were in their infancy.

After several successful years in computing he joined the family run firm – which had only been going for 1 year – which specialised electrical installations for Exhibitions and Events.

It was while working at the company he invented The Chocbox – a very simple enclosure to insulate electrical connectors.

The Chocbox was very successful and he took the product successfully onto Dragons Den.

Since then he has mentored several entrepreneurs with their inventions.

He also is a local councillor for Goffs Oak Ward and Business Champion for the Borough of Broxbourne.
